CPR is a life-saving technique that helps maintain some blood flow to the brain and heart, and can help “buy time” until paramedics arrive with more advanced care CPR, or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, is an important skill that everyone should learn. You do not need to be a medical professional to know or use CPR. You never know when you may need this skill to save someone you love or to be a hero to a stranger. Take the time to get certified and enjoy the peace of mind.
- Empowering – Knowing CPR empowers you to help someone in need. For parents this is especially true. Children younger than 5 tend to put objects in their mouths, and this behavior can lead to choking. Choking is a leading cause of death in this age group. Knowing what to do and how to perform CPR allows you to act quickly.
- Lifesaving – Situations may arise when you come across someone whose breathing or heart has stopped. Immediate action with CPR is the most effective way to save that individual, as an ambulance may not arrive for minutes. Providing CPR could mean the difference between life and death for someone who’s unconscious.
- Assisting – It is always better to have multiple people who are CPR certified in a crisis. One person performing CPR can tire quickly. Two people switching off can provide CPR longer than a person working alone.
- Working – Knowing CPR can give you an advantage in some jobs. Many jobs require CPR certification, and others look favorably upon it. If you have CPR certification when you’re applying for jobs such as personal trainer, lifeguard, child care, pre-school teacher or even baby-sitter you may have an edge over other applicants.

PulsePoint Respond empowers everyday citizens to provide life‐saving assistance to victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
App users who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and willing to assist in case of an emergency can be notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac emergency and may require CPR.
If the cardiac emergency is in a public place, the location-aware application will alert users in the vicinity of the need for CPR simultaneous with the dispatch of advanced medical care. The application also directs these potential rescuers to the exact location of the closest Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
